Dear Friends,
With the closing of Alternative Video Shop, an important resource for our
community has become available. This collection of queer/alternative films
contains over 1000 DVD and VHS titles, many of which are difficult if not
impossible to obtain. It is my fondest wish to keep the collection complete.
To do so, I need to raise at least 75% of the assigned value of this collection
in order to transfer it to the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center. That
means a goal of $7,500 must be raised.
I chose to withhold the collection from my closing sale, because I think
it is important to keep this rare collection together. Folks have offered
to buy parts of the collection to donate to the Center and for that I am
very grateful. However, I believe that the collection should be kept together
and used as an archive for our community. The Center's Board has agreed
to house and administer the collection in the Center's library. With your
assistance, this valuable resource will be able to remain in the Hudson
Valley. It will enable the Center to provide its members with access to
one of the largest private collections of titles in the United States.
It will be a tremendous benefit to the Center to retain these important
documentaries, historical films, and archival rarities.
I need your help! Please reach into your pockets and donate what you can
to keep this collection in our area. In the short amount of time the collection
has been on-line, I’ve received inquiries and offers from folks as
far away as New Mexico. They have been hard to resist, but I’m truly
committed to keeping these films here in the Hudson Valley. Please send
your tax-deductible donations today.
To preview
the titles that will be available, please Click
Here. All the titles
included in this collection are not listed on the website
as we are still compiling information. You will find a link to “updates” as
they are posted. Duplicate listings reflect titles available in both
VHS and DVD format. The database and web pages will also transfer to
the Center with the collection, as well as my personal services. Be sure
to click on the thumbnails of each film to see more details. For a sampling
of some of the rarities, please see West Coast Crones; 28th Instance
of July 1914; Anatomy of Desire; Vito and the Others which are all collectibles
and simply not available. These are just a few of the many important
films in this collection.
Thank you for all your support through the years. Also, thank you in
advance for committing to the preservation of this film collection.
Please make your tax-deductible donation payable to:

Below are descriptions written by Scott Cranin over ten
years ago. The films referred to are not necessarily included
in the collection, but Scott's reviews are worth preserving
in an archive such as the one on these pages. For a complete
list of the collection to be sent to the Hudson Valley
LGBTQ Center, please use the link at the top of this page.

a muscial could provide. Great dancing too! |
The
Abduction of the Seraglio
